For IHC installers: Offer smart home to your customers
For IHC installers: Offer smart home to your customers
You know IHC. You've installed it, programmed it, maintained it. Your customers call when they want new switches or an extra dimmer. But increasingly, they call with a new question: "Can you make my home smart?"
The market is knocking on your door
400,000 Danish homes have IHC. Homeowners want:
- App control — "Can I control my lights from my phone?"
- Hue integration — "Can my IHC dimmers talk to Philips Hue?"
- Energy optimization — "Can my thermostats use spot prices?"
- Sonos — "Can my speakers turn on the lights when music starts?"
BT Home as an installer product
BT Home Hub is designed to be sold and installed by IHC installers:
What you sell
| Product | Suggested price | Your margin |
|---|---|---|
| BT Home Hub | 1,499-1,999 DKK | Negotiable |
| BT Home Satellite | 299 DKK | Negotiable |
| BT Home Dongle | 199 DKK | Negotiable |
| Installation | Your price | 100% yours |
What the installation involves
- Place Hub in utility room/panel (Ethernet or WiFi)
- Verify IHC connection — Hub finds the controller automatically via Modbus TCP
- Review devices with customer — all IHC devices appear automatically
- Add modern devices — pair Hue, Sonos, Zigbee if desired
- Show customer browser control at bt.langr.org
No new knowledge required
You already know IHC. BT Home requires no:
- New software to learn (no ETS, no YAML)
- New wiring (uses existing network)
- Certificates or courses
- Cloud setup or server maintenance
The business model
Direct sales to customers
When you're already at an IHC customer's home (service, expansion, troubleshooting), you can offer:
"Would you like app control and energy optimization for your IHC system? I can install it in half an hour — 1,499 DKK for the hub plus installation."
A concrete product with a fixed price is easier to sell than a vague "smart home solution."
Upsell on existing customers
Your IHC customer base is your most valuable asset. BT Home gives you a reason to contact them:
- All 400,000 IHC homes are potential customers
- Energy optimization is a universal selling point (15-30% savings)
- Installation is fast — you can serve more customers per day
- No DIY competition — BT Home isn't something the customer can find at a big-box store
Recurring customer relationship
BT Home isn't a one-time sale. Customers will over time:
- Add Satellites to more rooms (299 DKK each)
- Expand with Zigbee devices (Danfoss, Aqara)
- Upgrade with energy optimization
- Need help with new automations
Why not just recommend Home Assistant?
Home Assistant is free — but it's also:
- Your support burden — the customer calls you when it breaks
- Unstable with IHC — the SOAP/XML integration breaks on HA updates
- Not a product — you can't sell "install Home Assistant" as a service
- Time-consuming — 4-8 hours setup vs 15 minutes
